Fun, Fast and Faith-Filled Birth Story

"I was looking for tools to help with a faith-filled birth. I had my baby boy 4 days ago and I definitely used your Christian hypnobirthing app leading up to my birth, which is absolutely amazing so thank you. I had such a fun birth and enjoyed listening to your voice which allowed my to surrender to Gods will and for him to fill me with faith for this birth."

Birth Story:

My name is Rachel and I recently had my third baby boy on the 14th of May in the early hours of the morning.

It all started the day before on Wednesday. I was having random pains every one or two hours. Nothing to make me think that I was in labour or have contractions. My husband and I went about our day trying to organise things for our new house we are building. Looking at flooring and chatting to tradies.

I was due to have an appointment with the midwife the next day (Thursday 10am). I was excited for this appointment because it meant I was able to have a MGP approved home birth. I had worked hard to get my iron levels up to be able to tick a box and have the home birth I had been wanting, but God had other plans for me.

I had a conversation with my midwife that day and I asked her what happens if bub comes before the appointment and she said I would need to travel to the hospital. With all that in mind I felt like I was in limbo possibly having a home birth but possibly having to go to the hospital. I was probably in denial that I was anywhere close to labour and being 38 weeks, I didn't think I was ready to give birth yet.

I was speaking to God and asking him what is happening and I was feeling very unsure about everything, however the Holy Spirit was telling me to surrender to what God had in store for me and not to worry so that is what I did.

That night I went to bed listening to the Christian Hypnobirthing app, thinking maybe these pains will die down and I will be able to have an amazing sleep and wake up in the morning ready for my appointment at home.

However after one hour of sleep I woke up at 11:30 with a contraction which wasn't too painful and I was breathing thought it, thanking the Lord for the contraction and still listening to Tara's voice, which was so helpful and lovely to have playing. I lay there for another hour listening and thinking I would drift back to sleep, however I had another contraction that was strong but not painful and my water popped very dramatically.

I woke my husband up at this time it was 12:27. I said my water just broke and we should probably look at going to the hospital. I called my parents, who live across the road from us, to come over so they could stay and look after my two boys sleeping in the front room of the house.

I also called my lovely midwife Martha and told her that this baby wasn't holding on for a home birth and my waters had broken. She suggested I should give it 20 minutes and see if I wanted to labour at home for a bit or just head into the hospital. I agreed and said I would call her back to let her know what I was doing.

I chatted to my husband and decided that we should get ready to go to the hospital because I didn't think bub was going to hold on much longer.

My parents arrived quickly and my husband had started to get some stuff together.

My contractions started to ramp up very quickly but I did my best to get my stuff ready to go. I was ready to go and had my pillow, standing in the hallway with the front door open and car running outside. My husband and parents slightly frantically were trying to get things ready to go. I decided to stay in the hallway to have my next contraction. Kneeling on my pillow and leaning on our hallway bench box with the cool breeze coming through the front door, I knew I was in transition and there was no way I was getting in that car.

My husband not knowing what was actually happening, helped me up with my mum on the other side. They both held me up while I had another contraction, however this time I was pushing and slightly yelling right outside of the room my two boys are sleeping in. By the grace of God they stayed asleep.

Me shaking my head and saying I'm not getting in the car, my husband with sweet intentions to reassure me that it's okay and that I can do it. I knew I had to be firm and say, hard no, this baby is coming now. In between my contractions I called my friend who is a doula and asked her to help me. Then at 1:12 I called my midwife to tell her I'm not to go make it to hospital, she told my husband to call the ambulance.

I made my way to the bed and had a contraction kneeling next to it. The ambulance operator instructed my husband to get me on the bed and on my back. I said I'm not getting on my back but I will get on the bed. I have birthed both my boys lying on the left side so that is what I did. With my husband holding my right leg up and on the phone to the ambluance and my mother on the other side checking for the head. Three very good pushing contractions and bubs head was out, then the paramedics walked into the room.

A lovely paramedic came straight to me to hold my hand and help me, while the other lady got her gloves on quick enough to catch the baby. My baby boy was born at 1:27, so that was only 15 mins of pushing and one hour after my waters broke. Paramedics are amazing and are very hands off when it comes to birth and take all directions from mum. I was able to say I wanted to just wait for my placenta to come out naturally with no questions asked. I delivered the placenta in the ambulance with bub feeding which was so nice to ride to the hospital lying down and holding my baby boy.

At the hospital, bub and I were checked and with no interventions, we were able to go home, healthy and blessed. All glory to God for giving me the pain free home birth He knew I needed and what a fun testimony to have (God truly has a great sense of humour).

I thank God for just an amazing husband, mother and father there to support me and unexpectedly be my makeshift midwives for the birth of my beautiful baby boy.

Thank you to Tara for developing such a wonderful app to help me prepare my mind for birth and surrender to God's plan. Also to Karen Welton for all her work with her pain free birth Instagram and podcasts which I love listening to. Listen to positive birth stories helped me tremendously to learn about birth and to birth with confidence in my body and without fear.
