The Seasons Are Changing!

Here in the UK, as we enter this autumn season, we start to pack away our summer clothes and get out our warm woolleys. The change in the seasons in nature, is like a mirror to the changing patterns in our own personal lives.

Data collected from many years of population statistics show that September & October are the most popular months for birthdays.

Several reasons for this seasonal baby boom have been suggested; It could be that that Christmas spirit generate a rise in feelings of goodwill (or maybe it’s the after-effects of the festive mulled wine & mince pies!?) Perhaps it’s the longer, chilly, darker days, which lead to snuggling into more early nights……

Whatever the reasons, the ‘mellow fruitfulness’ of the autumn season, reminds us of God’s first spoken blessing over every part of His creation.

“God blessed them: Prosper, Reproduce. Fill the earth!”

Genesis 1. The Message.

Our experiences of the seasons are affected by & dependent on which part of the planet we live. But every corner of the globe sees seasonal changes in some ways.

God planned these changing rhythms for His world, from the very beginning of time.

“Then God said, ‘Let bright lights appear in the sky to give light to the earth and to identify the day and the night; they shall bring about the seasons on the earth and mark the days and years. And so it was” - Genesis 1:14 -15 (NIV)

God’s blessing of fruitfulness and growth, continues through all of history. His desire for an intimate, deep connection with His creation remains the same for today, as when He spoke life into the beauty of Eden.

 In spite of our human desire to go our own way, God has made a way back to that relationship with our Creator. Jesus is the blessing for fruitfulness and growth and the promise of life in all its fulness.

Jesus spoke to His disciples about following the way of fruitfulness;

“…Those who remain in me and I in them, will produce much fruit…”

John 15:5 (NLT)

As a full spectrum life doula, it’s been my privilege to see and hear many personal stories of how, even in the ever-changing seasons of life, remaining connected to Jesus continues to birth and grow fruit in many lives.

The fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

This fruit grows in the promise of new life and light of spring, the sunshine and at times the drought of summer, the harvesting and seed sowing of autumn, and the hibernating and waiting, longer, darker days of winter.

In God, we can truly can experience the fulness of His fruitfulness and growth in every season.

God’s word also speaks about the importance of knowing and recognising the season we are in;

“From the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times and seasons and what to do…..”

1 Chronicles 12: 32 (NASB)

Daffodils are created to flourish best in the spring! So trying to plant them & grow them in the autumn won’t work!

God’s desire and plan for each of us, to experience deeper and stronger connections and attachments with His true source of life for every single moment.

This produces healthy good fruit which thrives and lasts.

God’s everlasting and unchanging promise is that “And surely I will be with you always, even to the very end of the age”

Matthew 28:20

This is the very best good news for the whole world-whatever our season, and stage of life.
