"I Was Smiling Through The Ring Of Fire": My Unmedicated Dream Birth

Birth Story:

"As soon as I birthed my daughter in 2022 I knew IMMEDIATELY that if I was ever blessed enough to conceive again I’d try to go unmedicated during delivery. My pregnancy, birth and postpartum was full of anxiety and my mental health was not good . I KNEW that was not from the Lord and KNEW he had more for me. I’m glad I was more than able to deliver without an epidural, but my mental space will not allow it in my first pregnancy. 

Fast forward to 2025, my husband and I decided that we would be open to have any children the Lord would have for us, but we both felt strongly that if we were to conceive again it would be in 2025 and if we didn’t conceive by the end of 2025 it would be a “no” from the Lord. On Dec 13, 2025 I found out I was pregnant with our second child!! 

From that moment, I called out to the Lord and asked him for a redemptive pregnancy and postpartum experience. 

Thankfully for Instagram I came across Christian Hypnobirthing. I had ordered the book, and spent much time convincing myself to invest in the course and the app/tracks. About halfway through my pregnancy I decided to give it a go!

My husband and I spent time together completing the modules in the birth course and I began listening to the tracks daily during my rest time. I wrote out personal biblical affirmations that I read to myself often. 

We decided to go with standard care with a local midwife. Throughout the course of my pregnancy, I was labeled as AMA or advanced maternal age. While that label can sometimes feel scary, my midwife did a great job reassuring me that my body could do this, and she was very, very open and eager to hear my birth plan, That alone made a huge difference!!

The provider with my first pregnancy never would’ve been open to anything outside of his norm! I also knew that God doesn’t make mistakes and that my age means nothing inside of Gods will. 

I went through all the scans, non-stress test and appointments perfectly that AMA requires of you. Baby was measuring on the bigger end, but I felt fully confident that my body would not fail me and the Lord made my body to do this. 

One day before my due date, I had an ultrasound to check on the baby… I woke up that morning contracting, but they were around 3 to 12 minutes apart. I went to my appointment that day and when my midwife asked to check me, I was 4 to 5 cm with a bulging bag of water. She thought it would be a good idea to contact my family because baby would be coming soon! 

After I got home from my appointment, contractions picked up and were around 2 to 3 minutes apart.  During this time  I turned on the Christian Hypnobirthing tracks.

The stillness that it brought me back to was so needed as things intensified quickly. 

Approximately two hours after my appointment ended, I decided it was time to head for the hospital as contractions were very intense.

Upon arriving at the hospital the nurse asked to check me and I was already 8 cm dilated! Before things got too intense, I was able to share my birth plan that I created using the template from the Christian Hypnobirthing course. I had already went over it with my midwife, but I wanted to make sure the nurses were on the same page! They were very open to everything on my birth plan, and we’re so very accommodating to all of my desires! This was an answered prayer.

I received a standard IV hep lock. I was connected to monitors that allowed me to move. The lights were dim, and the room was calm. When the nurse came in, she was very quiet and very encouraging. If something was too little or too much, I was able to express it and the nurse adapted to what we needed. My husband was a great advocate too. 

During my time laboring at the hospital, my labor music playlist was perfect and I read the Christian Hypnobirthing affirmation cards over and over. I swayed, I prayed, and cried out to God! His presence was apparent and infiltrated our atmosphere. We got many comments on our music playlist. 

My husband was my rock. At 9.5 cm, with consent, the doctor ruptured my water. Things grew in intensity, but his grace was enough. Baby needed to labor down as baby was still pretty high up. This felt like the most challenging part. 

Once I reached 10 cm it took quite a while for baby to labor down. I moved positions, deeply focused on my breathing and reminded myself that my baby had an appointed time to be born! 

When it came time to push, my body did ALL the work. Contractions changed in intensity and my body, just how God intended, kicked into gear.

My body was pushing my baby out and I didn’t even have to do much, this was shocking to me because my first birth was medicated and I pushed for hours!!! This time, MY BODY pushed him out in just a couple contractions!

I was even talking through the “ring of fire”, smiling and eager for the next contraction to come and push my baby out!! 

We didn’t know the gender of our baby, and at 7:44pm on August 24,2026, just 4 hours shy of his due date, our healthy 9lb baby boy was born giving me the unmedicated birth of my dreams. 

I have been absolutely floored with my recovery. I was all smiles and full of love immediately postpartum, I didn’t have to come down off of medications which made me feel terribly crummy my first birth. I was able to get up and walk quickly and on a scale of 1-10 my pain stayed around 0-1- the lowest you can get!!!

After my first birth, I struggled with intense brain fog, and I attribute that to all the medication pumped in my body… I am so thankful that that is not something I experienced this time during my unmedicated birth!!
